Abstract
The present study was conducted to examine the difference in awareness of appearance and cosmetic surgery, as well as grade of concern for and satisfaction with medical service of 300 males and females in their teens, 20s and 30s who often consult cosmetic surgeries and skin doctors for their care in Jeollabukdo provincial area.
Of the males surveyed, 49.6%, the biggest ratio among them, replied that they usually endeavor to make themselves up while 56.9% of the females, also the biggest ratio among them, responded positively, revealing some difference in their awareness and efforts to dress up their appearance (p<0.001).
To the query whether appearance can be improved with efforts, 50.4% of males and 62.3% of females, the highest ratios each, replied with "Yes" (p<0.000). Asked whether appearance may play an important role in social life, 33.1% of males and 48.6% of females, also the highest ratios each, responded with "No" (p<0.003). In the medical service sector, patients who feel at ease with medical service providers tended to be satisfied with the medical service rendered by them. It was also evident that the shorter the waiting time is, the higher the satisfaction of patients becomes, whereas, however, there is nobody who feels comfortable when the waiting time gets longer.
It is believed to be of much help to develop new cosmetic market if the findings of this study would be used for exploring differentiated service of cosmetic surgery and more attention could be paid to have positive mindset about cosmetic surgery-related medical service. Efforts should also be made to find the ways to shorten the waiting time, which would be a sure way to provide better quality medical service to patients.
